In this class, I will cover how I use a Still Air Box (SAB) to perform tissue culture work. We’ll build still air boxes, discuss theory and application behind the method, take tissue cultures, and cook and pour agar for petri dishes. I will be bringing some petri dishes and liquid cultures with local cultures of Oyster, Lions Mane, Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Cordyceps to share! The Oyster, Lions Mane, and Cordyceps were even collected in Schuyler!

The first half of the class, including the discussion, building of boxes, and cooking of agar, will be entirely outside. For cleanliness of cultures, we will move inside during the second half of the class. We will use sanitation procedures and be masked and gloved for this portion of the class, which is typical of tissue culture work.

The class is free to attend, but we want to bring supplies for anyone that is interested in building a box or taking home petri dishes or liquid cultures. Please RSVP so we can bring enough stuff! We are asking to be compensated for supplies, but it will be very inexpensive: $1 per culture dish or $2 per liquid culture syringe, and $5-10 per Still Air Box. I will be donating some consumables, like masks and gloves and alcohol.
